CHRONICLES OF KASSOUK:
OVERVIEW OF THE SERIES
Noah's Ark, a transport full of human settlers equipped to seed a new planet with life, crashes on the wrong world, a cold orb beyond the confines of the known universe. Seeking refuge in the abandoned alien fortress of Kassouk, the settlers and their motley crew fight for survival, against hostile natives, and advanced galactic races who consider them cheap labor and research material for their genetic experiments.
Stranded with no hope of rescue, deprived of their technology by the ruling aliens, the humans of Kassouk reverse to a medieval farming society with slight differences. Besides horses and swords, they keep large felines as pets and train them for battle. They also proudly adopt big cat names as warrior names, and women often strive as military leaders.
As they fight their alien rulers to keep their freedom and their pride, as well as the right to freely choose their mates… other, more insidious dangers lurk. Generation after generation, as the people of Kassouk evolve and secretly learn from the alien races oppressing them, a few start developing extraordinary abilities…
WHITE TIGER - Book One
On the frozen plains of Kassouk, where a few aliens rule a medieval Human world, Tora, Human warrior trained by tigers, seeks her father’s murderer. But what she finds at the point of her sword confuses her. How dare Dragomir, the handsome Mutant, question her bloodline and her loyalties? And could a new enemy control the savage hordes of the fringe?
Dragomir offers to help, but Humans and Mutants are forbidden to fraternize under penalty of death... Should Tora trust her mind, her instincts, or her heart?
In the vortex of war, treason and intrigue, among blizzards, avalanches and ambushes, Tora sets out to solve the mystery of her father’s death. When she unveils the secret of her birth, she realizes Dragomir is the key, and together, they must save their planet from the invaders and fulfill their destiny... if they can survive dire persecutions from those they mean to protect.

Some SciFi Romance Movie Favs
I like my SFR in book form, but sometimes the movies in the genre can be fun, too. A few of my favorite sci-fi movies with a little romance are:
FLASH GORDON. This movie really captured my attention back in the day when it was released. It was one of my first SFR films and the characters were so deliciously campy and fun, I found myself hooked. The villains, the costumes, the vamps. Awesome. Oh, and then there's the music by QUEEN.
While EDWARD SCISSORHANDS has a more Gothic tone, Edward was fashioned in a lab by a slightly evil scientist. Then there's the eerie cookie cutter neighborhood like something out of A Wrinkle In Time. And the romance between Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder is pure sweetness.
MARS ATTACKS is a wickedly clever and cinematically astounding movie that's just pure insanity. A poignant romance occurs between Sara-Jessica Parker and Pierce Brosnan that transcends their transformation into other Frankensteinian creatures. Natalie Portman and the donut guy (kid from Witness) will have the onerous task of repopulating the planet, so there's that budding romance. Plus, you'll never listen to Slim Whitman the same way again.
No SFR film list would be complete with a Firefly reference. Since we're talking movies, SERENITY is full of fledgling, unrequited, and conjugal romance aplenty. It's unusual to see a healthy married relationship in a movie--much less an SFR--but Wash and Zoe are two peas in a firefly-class pod. Add in the lingering looks between Mal and Inara, and Kaley and Simon, and you get lots of heart-sigh moments.
These are just a few of my go to SFR titles. What are your favorite SFR films?

Space Western!
My latest SFR release has a setting I call the Space Frontier. In my world building I see a couple or three hundred years of colonists moving out from Terra in star sleep space ships at first. Later there are faster ships and jumpstreams, fueled by a highly prized new mineral called cryst. There are still far flung isolated communities, agriworlds that have difficulty maintaining their high tech past. Some planets have developed governments, treaties and allies, others are chaos. Most worlds have a great deal of empty space, and lawlessness and piracy are common.
Go centuries into the future from the Space Frontier and you have my Diaspora Worlds books--same history, just much farther into the future.
My hero is from a frontier planet and got caught up in the Slave Wars, which didn't really settle the issue of how to treat the humanoid non Terran race they share the galaxy with. The War did leave Jack Starlander as the only survivor of the small group from his homeworld that fought, which is why he hasn't returned home but mines cryst on an asteroid.
Widowed single mother Sophie has powerful paranormal abilities, but she has run into lawless men, slavers.

Space Age Love on Valentine's Day
Love and the future go together like a Reese's PeanutButter Cup collision. After all, the future is the gist of romantic love, right? The Happily-Ever-After?
Plus, love is a little like the Great Unknown, or something we sense but cannot fully understand or contain. Like space, time...the universe.
The Science-Fiction Romance genre capitalizes on this theme, exploiting the boundaries of what we understand about our world. There's a plethora of books and movies in this genre, but one of my all time favorite SFR novels is:
The Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee. It's the SFR book that got me hooked on the genre in my teens.
Love is made of more than mere flesh and blood....
Tanith Lee is one of the most thought-provoking and imaginative authors of our time. In this unforgettably poignant novel, Lee has created a classic tale--a beautiful, tragic, erotic, and ultimately triumphant love story of the future.
For sixteen-year-old Jane, life is a mystery she despairs of ever mastering. She and her friends are the idle, pampered children of the privileged class, living in luxury on an Earth remade by natural disaster. Until Jane's life is changed forever by a chance encounter with a robot minstrel with auburn hair and silver skin, whose songs ignite in her a desperate and inexplicable passion.
Jane is certain that Silver is more than just a machine built to please. And she will give up everything to prove it. So she escapes into the city's violent, decaying slums to embrace a love bordering on madness. Or is it something more? Has Jane glimpsed in Silver something no one else has dared to see--not even the robot or his creators? A love so perfect it must be destroyed, for no human could ever compete?
Treat yourself this Valentine's Day and check out this SFR classic!

Blurb:
When Trixie's star freighter, Noah's Ark, drops out of jump space in an
uncharted part of the universe, she believes the M‑class planet on her viewer
represents hope and salvation for her motley crew and the ragtag settlers
aboard her ship. Kostas, ex Space Marine, the expert survivalist recruited for
this expedition, doesn't believe in coincidences, and knows that when something
looks too good to be true, it usually is.
Everyone on this voyage to seed a new planet with life, is running from
something, and harbors dangerous secrets... including Trixie, who vowed to
never let a man control her life again. As for Kostas, he would get lynched on
the spot if anyone suspected who he really is.
But on this seemingly abandoned planet, others are watching, herding
them for evil purposes... And when the truth emerges and secrets unravel,
Trixie and Kostas will have to fight for survival, for freedom, and for the
right to love...
Enjoy the read.
