Holidays in Space - by Vijaya Schartz
It's getting close to the holidays. Looking for a story with a holiday theme that is romance and science fiction? Look no further. The Space Station Borealis is celebrating, but other things are going on.
Black Dragon
Borealis novella from Desert Breeze Publishing
A gambler is cheating in a den of the Borealis space station, and Lieutenant Zara Frankel intends to catch him in the act. She always gets her man, but this one could prove more than she can handle.
Captain Czerno Drake, code name Black Dragon, has come under cover to break his innocent uncle from the most secure penitentiary in the galaxy, on the Borealis space station. He will stop at nothing to succeed, even enrolling the help of the lovely straight arrow TPP enforcer. When Zara realizes that she’s been used by a shrewd but seductive rebel, her reaction surprises everyone, most of all herself.
"I love the Borealis novellas, and in particular, this one by Vijaya Schartz. As always, her action-packed, well-plotted out prose kept me glued to the pages of Black Dragon from start to finish." TwoLips Reviews 5-kisses review and a RECOMMENDED READ

When bounty hunter
Akira Karyudo accepted her assignment, something didn't add up.
Why would the Trans Planetary Protectorate want a kidnapped
orphan dead or alive?
She will get to the truth once she finds the boy, and the no good SOB who snatched him from a psychiatric hospital. With her cheetah, Freckles, a genetically enhanced feline retriever, Akira sets out to flush them out of the bowels of the BOREALIS space station. But when she finds her fugitives, the kidnapper is not what she expects.
Markku, a decorated rebel soldier, stole his nephew from the authorities, who performed painful experiments on the boy. Stuck on Borealis, he protects the child, but how can he shield him from the horribly dangerous conditions in the lawless sublevels of the decrepit space station?
Akira faces the worst moral dilemma of her career. Law or justice, duty or love. She can't have it both ways.

Win a copy of AKIRA'S CHOICE
Less than a month left to the release of AKIRA'S CHOICE, the 9th novella in the BOREALIS space station series. I'm starting a contest on my website. Easy peasy. Just click on the email link and send me your name, and I'll enter you in the contest to win a pdf copy of this new space adventure, set on the Borealis Space Station, at the fringe of conquered space.
This is a sweet series (a few kisses, but no love scenes). My previous contribution to this series was BLACK DRAGON, the story of a handsome rebel and a feisty law enforcer. You can find all the books in the series at all major eBook retailers if you want to catch up, although each novella can be read separately. Since this is a publisher series by Desert Breeze, not the books are from different authors. The first two are anthologies comprising three novellas each. Black Dragon was novella #7, published separately. Akira's Choice will be Novella #9.
Here is the link to all these novellas in kindle on AMAZON and in nook at B&N

Plotting the Romantic sci-fi novella - by Vlijaya Schartz
Novellas are just as difficult as a novel to write or plot. They require the same elements indispensable to any good story. I am back in the groove of writing science fiction, after a stint in Medieval Fantasy, and I love it.
But I realize that my plotting methods are changing. When I started writing, I wrote by the seat of the pants, not knowing where the story would lead me. Then when I had multiple book contracts, I decided to plot my novels. Since I was writing on deadlines, I couldn't afford to write a chapter or two in the wrong direction only to have to delete them later if they didn't fit the new direction of the story. I needed a tighter focus.
While writing my medieval series, I wrote from historical facts, so my job was to make the story enjoyable, believable despite its fantasy slant, and find character motivations for actions already determined by History. That was a different kind of challenge.
Now I use all these tools. I heard recently the term plotting in layers. I like it. I now start with the main characters. I have to know them before I start writing anything. I know the main plot line and twists. I know how it's going to end. I know the characters' internal conflicts. I have a starting point.
Then I start to write. It's a little scary, and the first draft is skinny bones. I'm only on Chapter 2 of Borealis 9 (no definite title yet), and I can feel the flow of ideas rolling in. The plot thickens is not just an expression. It's turning from a light broth to a hearty soup and eventually a rich stew.
In any case, I'm enjoying the process. I'll keep you updated on this experience.
In the meantime, you can read my previous contribution to the Borealis Space Station Universe, BLACK DRAGON, from Desert Breeze Publishing.

BOREALIS SERIES - by Vijaya Schartz
I am delighted. This publisher series from Desert Breeze already included two previous anthologies, and another separate novella, all by different authors. The other consideration is that this space opera romantic action adventure is on the sweet side.
The premise for the BOREALIS SPACE STATION series:
In orbit over a deserted outpost at the edge of conquered space sits an aging space station under the control of the Trans Planetary Protectorate. Its name is Borealis, and it is slowly falling apart as the Protectorate funnels its massive resources into the border wars, and keeping the outlying systems in line, as insurrections break out.
BLACK DRAGON:
Available in kindle, nook, at ARe and from Desert Breeze Publishing

FUTURE BOREALIS NOVELLAS:
Yes, there will be more of these novellas coming out next year. I will be contributing another novella to the BOREALIS UNIVERSE. No title yet, but it will have to do with the rebels and the TPP and will include a strong heroine, as always. My BOREALIS 9 story is scheduled for September 1, 2013.
Happy Reading.
