TOP TEN REASONS NOT TO READ MY BOOKS
http://is.gd/mustlovecats |
Lately my sales have been - well, let's just say I'm not buying a yacht (rowboat) anytime soon. So I began to wonder why readers aren't buying/reading my books. Here's what I've come up with:
10. They don't like well-written stories about two people falling in love.
9. They have a medical condition that prevents them from getting too excited by sexy
love scenes or fast-paced action.
8.
Books containing humor and heartfelt emotions like love and joy conflict
with their pessimistic view of the world.
7. They don't like romance books because they aren't realistic like books about
maniacal serial killers, zombie wars, sparkly vampires or space ships.
(Actually STAR CRASH has a space ship. No vampires - yet.)
6.
Reading stories that might include cute kids, puppies, and kittens gives
them hives.
5. They only read (insert preferred genre of fiction here,) and books that focus
on the growing relationship between two people can't possibly be as exciting or
interesting.
4. They only read romances written by (insert favorite romance author's name
here,) because - well, just because.
3.
Their lives are so full and exciting already reading is a waste of time
that they could be using to climb mountains, fight alien invaders or zombies,
make love, explore the universe, and sleep.
2. They don't want to contribute to the growth of my massive ego which believes reading
my books will entertain them and make them a better person.
1. As
for the Top Reason Not To Read My Books I'll leave that for them to decide and I'd
love to hear what they are. Just remember that every time they don't read one of my books
a Joss Whedon show gets cancelled, a fairy dies, and an angel doesn't get his
wings.

Did You Ever Wonder
Once upon a time, a long time ago, I took an art history. One of the things that stuck with me was the impact technology had on art. Before photography, artists tried to meticulously recreate the world the saw. Afterwards, artists created the impression of what they saw.
It was a subtle shift, yet it gave birth to the many incarnations of modern art.
Now computers are changing the photography.
What will happen to art when we have interactive holograms and virtual reality?
What form will future art take? Will retro art have supporters or will everything be electronic and subject to anniliation by a stray solar flare? Would museums still exist? Would artists?
It's a silly question really. Humans will always interpret the world around them. And I strongly believe art is encoded in our DNA. I just hope I live long enough to visit a virtual Louvre or Tate.

My Favorite Sci-fi Shows
Then I realized that all of my favorite sci-fi shows are
from years gone by. Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica. I can probably
only tell you one sci-fi television show or movie that is on right now and I’m
afraid to name it. Afraid that if I do I’ll jinx it and they’ll cancel it. That
seems to happen to every show that my husband and I like.
What is this amazing forward thinking show that has become
one of my favorites? Almost Human. It
stars Karl Urban as Detective Kennex who has been matched with a robot, named
Darian. In this future, there are not enough cops so every human cop is matched
with a robot. But none of them are like Darian. He is the only one that is
Almost Human. The only one who can feel.
I love Karl. That alone is reason enough to watch. He’s
gorgeous and he happens to be talented and one of my favorite actors. He’s been
in many of my favorite movies. The Lord of the Rings, Riddick, The Bourne
Ultimatum, and Red. His roles have run the gauntlet from the lord of the Rohan
horsemen, to a warrior of a future religion, to a assassin and an FBI agent and
now a cop.
Why do I like Almost Human? Because the future, though
grittier, is not so unlike the present as to not be recognizable. Because the
robot has come so far as to be Almost Human. Because it reminds me of some of the
best science fiction. Like those books by Asimov and Philip K. Dick.
Try it out and see if you don’t agree.

IND'tale Magazine just revealed their nominees for the RONE Award and Akira's Choice is one of their favorite stories of 2013.
5 stars - exceptional - recommended read - Ind'tale Magazine
"Wow! If readers want to see and feel and believe they are in deep space, then "Borealis IX: Akira's Choice" is the perfect choice! With a touch of romance, the vivid descriptions and beautifully developed characters masterfully presented by Schartz create a virtual world that invite the reader not merely to observe, but to walk amongst them and participate... This is a delicate art, and Schartz wields her weapons with precision and skill. Banzai!"
BLURB:
When bounty hunter Akira Karyudo accepted her assignment, something didn't add up. Why would the Trans Planetary Protectorate want a kidnapped orphan dead or alive?
She will get to the truth once she finds the boy, and the no good SOB who snatched him from a psychiatric hospital. With her cheetah, Freckles, a genetically enhanced feline retriever, Akira sets out to flush them out of the bowels of the BOREALIS space station. But when she finds her fugitives, the kidnapper is not what she expects.
Markku, a decorated rebel soldier, stole his nephew from the authorities, who performed painful experiments on the boy. Stuck on Borealis, he protects the child, but how can he shield him from the horribly dangerous conditions in the lawless sublevels of the decrepit space station?
Akira faces the worst moral dilemma of her career. Law or justice, duty or love. She can't have it both ways.

Time-Travel Is Sci-Fi, Right?
According to Wikipedia, time travel is an off-shoot of science-fiction. My book series, Tennessee Waltz, is time-travel plus sparkles--fairy sparkles that is.
And the final book in the series is almost here!
What started back in 2011 with Kiss Me, I'm Irish,
and Kiss Me, I'm Home in 2013
has finally come to fruition with Kiss Me, I'm Home.
Well, almost. It's currently in the editing process, but I wanted to give you a peek of the cover!
Here's the teaser:
The prickly Morgan Lee Faye has a penchant for
family TV dramas and a dislike for the people around her, but she's the
best travel agent in Tennessee. So good
that she catches the eye of the mysterious proprietor of Avalon Travel
Agency, Mr. Kane.
If Morgan accepts the job, she's promised adventure
around the globe and gold for her pocket, but she worries the offer is
too good to be true. It is. And Kane isn't the only with a creepy
agenda. Her co-workers all seem to want a piece of Morgan's secret—even
the two office hotties.
Honestly, she just wishes they'd all go away so
she could watch Little House On The Prairie.
From Nashville to Avalon, faerie mischief is back!
I'll let you know when the book is officially released in the next few weeks. In the meantime, grab a copy of the first book Kiss Me, I'm Irish on St Patrick's Day, when it will be 99 cents!
