ANGEL FIERCE is an award-winning novel - by Vijaya Schartz
Although my books won several awards over the years, this one is meaningful. It’s not a popularity contest, or the opinion of a reviewer on a website, but an official recognition by the writing community of Arizona. It’s also in a very large category, Published Fiction, not a limited genre, like romance or science fiction.
So you can see why I’m excited. This contest has existed for decades, and is open to all authors everywhere, so I had a lot of competition. Still, ANGEL FIERCE won 1st place, and it’s wonderful.
Find it on: amazon – B&N – Smashwords – Kobo
BLURB:
All Maksou wanted was to rescue his trapped friends and get rich in the process. But this forbidden blue planet crawls with lethal life forms… including Urielle, a gorgeous angel of frightening power, who saves his life but shuns his irresistible charm.
Urielle, Legion Commander of the Avenging Angels, is sworn to protect Azura at all costs. She has no use for a maverick intruder who ignores the rules and endangers the planet by his very presence… no matter how handsome and charming. Especially when the Galactic Trade Alliance (GTA) wages a secret war to get their greedy hands on the priceless crystal at Azura’s core.
When immortal angels turn up dead, Urielle springs into action… and Maksou is in her line of sight.
Here are a few review snippets:
“This romance is full of fascinating elements and a unique spin on Angels… fast pace and strong, vivid characters that draw readers in and keep them glued to the pages… an entertaining and intriguing read.”Ind’tale Magazine
“Action-packed twists and blooming romance fill each chapter to the point I didn’t want to stop reading it. I adore her planet, Azura, and the abilities of her Avenging Angels, but even above those, her two main story-stars, Maksou and Urielle, take the lead. Truth beyond all…especially when one can’t lie. Love it! I will be reading more of this author, entertaining and intriguing, along with vivid, intense action…plus the fact, this author knows her sci-fi.” Susan on amazon.
“This is a TERRIFIC story with angels, people doing questionable things for the right or good reasons and women who are more than strong. They are leaders and can kick butt as well as the men.” Beverly on amazon
Book One in the series is ANGEL MINE https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CYWVHWG/
Book Three, ANGEL BRAVE, is scheduled for release in late 2020.

Space Pirates
I love space operas ala Star Wars, Firefly, and the like, so when my editor asked me for another sci-fi story after STAR CRASH, I had to do something with space pirates. Think STAR WARS meets PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN.
STAR RAIDERS
http://is.gd/starraiders
A FIERY ENCOUNTER
Like two ill-aligned stars, Shyanne Kedar and Greyson Dane were destined to collide. She was a smuggler’s daughter, and he, an interstellar lawman. Their affair was scorching, dazzling…and ended like a supernova, in a blaze of betrayal.
A LOVE REKINDLED
Ten years later, the flames haven’t cooled. Shyanne’s lush body, the twist of her lips and the fire in her eyes—all radiate the same magnetism that ensnared Greyson before, and now he’s truly her prisoner. But as much as things have changed, they remain exactly the same. Danger threatens. Humanity’s fate hangs in the balance. And though his tempting captor doesn’t know it, if Greyson’s plan succeeds, it will save mankind…and lose him the only woman he ever loved. This time, forever.
Reviews:
"FOUR STARS! This romp through space has several twists, turns, and surprises. Whenever I came to believe that I understood everything, the author either tossed a bit of debris or a huge meteor in my path, causing things to spin out of control. Shyanne's crewmates are fascinating. I especially hope to see more of Silky, a hundred pound cat. The intelligent and telepathic feline has an ever-present entourage of feline guards she seems to be leader of. Silky is much more than she seems. THAT character deserves to be in more than a single story! So do a few of the other crewmates.
Though women are the target audience, I believe many men would enjoy it too. Packed with action, suspense, and romance, this story is out of this world. (No pun intended."
Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.
"STAR RAIDERS is a great romantic outer space thriller starring two former lovers still in love, but his treachery keeps them apart as she refuses to trust him with her heart or freedom. He regrets that he will use her again, but believes strongly his mission is critical because if he fails mankind could become extinct. Sub-genre readers will enjoy the Hendricks' galaxy as two people still in love conceal secrets from one another."
5-Stars -Harriet Klausner
"Fantastic?
Spacetacular! Yup, that's how much I enjoyed this book I am resorting to making my own word.
Elysa Hendricks has succeed in carving out a world for her motley crew of characters. The sizzling romance and passion is equally matched by the action, danger and adventure.. The strength woven into the characters is admirable and easy to fall into step with. Their mission became my mission and I wanted nothing more then to see them succeed. Greyson enlists the help of his once lover Shy. Shy has the means, smarts, and connections to bring down an intergalactic criminal who has been racking up quite a list of horrors and leaving Shy's calling card.
The storyline itself is riveting and face paced. Greyson and Shy share a history. They both have painful childhoods and both have enormous amounts of reserve. The secondary characters add another sweet layer to this novel. Shy's motley crew on her spaceship, Independence, all have appealing back stories. Elysa has shares just enough to help readers sympathize and comprehend actions without drowning us in their history. What the main characters don't know is that their history goes much deeper then they realize and their futures are infinitely intertwined."

Suction Cup On Your Soul... by Michele Callahan
![]() |
| FREE EVERYWHERE until Dec 15 |
I know Thanksgiving is officially behind us, but I think it’s important to maintain that attitude of gratitude every day. Why? Because life is tough. People get sick. They die. They hurt and struggle and are in pain. We are all part of this dance called life, and if we don’t focus on the good things around us, it’s very easy to be pulled down into the mud. The mud is cold and dirty and sticky, and it’s like a suction cup on our souls, keeping us down. That mud is sadness, hate, guilt, fear…you get the idea.
I think reading a good book helps pull us out of the mud of life. It can make us feel happiness, contentment, love, and compassion. Romance novels, in particular, can fill us up in a way not many books do. Romance is the best of all worlds…adventure, suspense, forgiveness and true love.
So, in my attitude of gratitude today, I’m going to list the top 10 things I’m thankful for today. I’m going to leave out the usual suspects, because I think they’re a given; family, health, and home. I’m going for the simple pleasures in life, the things that make us sigh with contentment that perhaps we don’t even notice. Like…
1) Romance Novels

NEW RELEASE: SNOW CHEETAH, Book 5 in the Chronicles of Kassouk by Vijaya Schartz
Get ready, SNOW CHEETAH is coming in November HERE.
This is the very last book in the Chronicles of Kassouk series (I swear). It nicely caps the series as after a thousand years, a vessel from Earth discovers unexpected humans on this far-flung planet.
On a mission to annex a planet for Earth, Captain Martial Terrien faces a culture with incredible psychic abilities, and falls for its lovely but forbidden queen.
Natalia, future queen of Kassouk, pressured into bonding with a power-hungry prince, yearns to improve her people's lives. She finds the handsome Earth captain a refreshing distraction, despite his five fingers and ridiculous claim of being human, like the lowly workers of her world.
Captain Martial Terrien, nano-enhanced Space Marine from Earth, is on a secret, desperate mission to find his people a new home. The unexpected population on the chosen planet complicates his task, especially since the ruling caste can read minds, levitate, and teleport at will. Furthermore, the lovely princess and her pet cheetah take a shine to him... and beautiful women always spelled disaster in his past.
Natalia's jilted suitor, determined to reign at any cost, vows to annihilate the Earthlings. When the conflict escalates, can Martial obey Earth Central Command, or will he jeopardize the future of his race to save Natalia and her people?
EXCERPT:
When her arm weakened and her steps grew shaky, he did a somersault over her head, leaving her confused. Then he shoved her sideways, and tackled her. He pinned her to the soft mat, face up, while he held her sword arm to the floor.
He had her.
Her hair came undone around her head, like a bright halo on the soft gray mat, and her luminous green gaze locked with his. Her lips opened slightly, and he couldn't help but stare. She looked so helpless, her chest heaving. Her eyes unfocused and her pupils dilated. She was not playing the game anymore... neither was he.
Her breath hitched. He lowered his face to hers and hovered closer to marvel at her beauty. She kept staring at him. He couldn't resist the temptation to probe her mind. A mistake. She was calling to him, wanting him to kiss her. He lowered his gaze to her mouth and she licked her slightly open lips. How could he possibly resist her sensual call?
Slowly, deliberately, he brushed her pliant lips, enjoying the soft contact. When she tasted him with a lick, he held his fire, afraid she would balk at a fierce response. She had to be a virgin. Then she let go of the sword. He relaxed his hold, and she caressed his hair.
The sensation of her six-fingered hand on his head awakened shored up needs he could no longer contain. Cupping her fiery mane, he claimed her mouth and ravished it with the fervor of a starving man.
She moaned softly and arched under him, as if seeking body contact. Flashes of all the disastrous consequences their relationship could bring barely cooled his lust, but he must stop this now.
He steeled himself against the separation and rose slowly, with great reluctance.
She sat up on the mat, staring at him.
"I'm so sorry." He turned away. He couldn't watch her like that. "It won't happen again. I promise."
"Why not?" The disappointment in her voice and in her mind sliced him deeper than a sword.
"You are promised to another man." As good an excuse as any. The truth was too ugly to tell. His mission might require him to annihilate her entire race.
"I do not intend to become Kaylar's mate." The indignant tone told much about her dislike for the man.
Martial stiffened, closing his fists, then he faced her again. "I hope we can still be friends."
"Friends?" Tears welled in her beautiful green eyes.
"Or colleagues... diplomat and future queen." Martial still needed more information on the Starlings.
She swallowed a sob, quickly wiped a tear, then composed her face. "Maybe when you see more of our culture, you will understand that although our females often take a submissive role, we do have a choice in the matter. We are civilized."
"Of course, you are." He certainly felt like the Neanderthal here.
She rose from the floor and tossed her long wavy hair behind the shoulders of her impeccable white body suit. "Then shall we meet again tomorrow?" Hope softened her face. "I planned to show you our hydroponic installations."
"I accept, but I must bring my team." For his own protection. He didn't want to repeat past mistakes. And mistakes would certainly be made if he spent too much time alone with her.

Space Western!
My latest SFR release has a setting I call the Space Frontier. In my world building I see a couple or three hundred years of colonists moving out from Terra in star sleep space ships at first. Later there are faster ships and jumpstreams, fueled by a highly prized new mineral called cryst. There are still far flung isolated communities, agriworlds that have difficulty maintaining their high tech past. Some planets have developed governments, treaties and allies, others are chaos. Most worlds have a great deal of empty space, and lawlessness and piracy are common.
Go centuries into the future from the Space Frontier and you have my Diaspora Worlds books--same history, just much farther into the future.
My hero is from a frontier planet and got caught up in the Slave Wars, which didn't really settle the issue of how to treat the humanoid non Terran race they share the galaxy with. The War did leave Jack Starlander as the only survivor of the small group from his homeworld that fought, which is why he hasn't returned home but mines cryst on an asteroid.
Widowed single mother Sophie has powerful paranormal abilities, but she has run into lawless men, slavers.

want?" Greyson asked. Despite his obvious arousal, he was leaving the
decision to her. It would have been easier if he'd taken command. This way left
her no excuse.
His question increased her apprehension.
Want? No. Shy didn't want him. After all the pain and grief, how could she? No,
she didn't want this. She needed it.
"Yes," she said.
A small smile touched his lips. He took a
step toward her.
When she tensed, he placed his palm against
her cheek and looked into her eyes. "Trust me. I won't hurt you."
Looking into his eyes, she wanted to believe
him. Wanted to feel what she'd felt all those years ago: pure, innocent love,
untarnished by lies or deceit. But that time was long gone. Those feelings were
long dead, the people who'd felt them long discarded. Whatever they shared now
could be only physical. Lust: Yes. Sex: Hell, yes. Trust? Hell, no.
She stood in silent anticipation as he peeled
away her clothing. She shivered. Not from the cool air swirling over her bare
skin, but from the heated look in his dark eyes. Her breasts swelled. He leaned
forward and captured one hard nipple between his lips and sucked. Wet heat
sizzled through her. Her knees buckled. To keep from falling, she grabbed his
shoulders then gasped as he swung her into his arms and deposited her on the
exam table.
He crawled up and over her. His cock brushed
against the inside of her thigh where, slick and hot, moisture gathered. Desire
churned in her belly.
She reached up and pulled his mouth to hers.
Their tongues tangled in a silent battle, and she realized her control was an
illusion. Under the assault of his hands, lips and tongue, rational thought
deserted her. His lips left hers to trail down her throat. She arched her neck
to grant him access. Breath shuddered out of her as he rolled one aching nipple
between his fingers and sucked the other into his mouth. The suction sent
frissons of long forgotten sensation coursing through her, like the tiny
bubbles in effervescent wine they tingled in her veins.
Need built the pressure inside her, need
dammed up without release. Her skin felt super-sensitized. Greyson stroked his
fingertips down her chest and belly and explored the indent of her navel.
Lower, he combed through her damp curls. One finger moved past the hair and
delved into the slick folds.
When he circled her clit, the surge of energy
from the brief touch jolted her and she gasped. He tried to pull his hand away,
but she grasped his wrist and held him there. She felt him grin against her breast.
Twisting her body, she flipped him onto his
back, then rose on her knees and straddled his hips. Air cooled the heat on her
breast, but the feel of his hard cock pressing against her pubic mound sent a
surge of heat into her belly. Though his cock throbbed, bouncing gently against
her, and his breathing was rapid, he smiled.
Every nerve coiled in anticipation, but his
command of his passion angered her. She wanted him as frantic for satisfaction
as she. Desperate to take back control, to get what she needed from him, she
lifted her hips over him and plunged downward.
She gasped at the small spear of pain from
his intrusion into her body. Years of going without had left her tight. Still,
unwilling to wait for her body to adjust to his size, she rode him fast and
hard.
Clasping her thighs with his hands, he met
her stroke for stroke, pushing her ever upward. The bubbles in her blood turned
to sparks of fire. Inside her an inferno raged, burning away the last of her
reason, her doubts and her fears. Nothing mattered but reaching this summit and
plunging into the abyss beyond.
With a burst of inner light, she climaxed.
She cried out and fell forward over him. He thrust upward one last time and she
felt his liquid heat flow into her. She pressed her face against his
sweat-slick body and murmured, "This doesn't change anything. I may still
space you."
"I'll worry about that tomorrow."
